Drug use evaluation and rational prescription audit of restricted antibiotics in tertiary care corporate hospital: An interventional study

: Antimicrobial agent are the biggest contribution to 20th century, which used prevent and cure of infections. Over use antimicrobials has facilitated development resistance. Drug utilization research help in identification clinical drugs populations its impact on healthcare system. The aim study is identify overuse/misuse antibiotic usage our intensive care unit. helps rationalising prescription avoid emergence drug resistance improve better patient’s outcome. An observational audit been conducted inpatient admitted set up prescribed with restricted antimicrobials. done for 3 months. Audit report 218 patients have Restricted either one or more than one. shows that Meropenem Colistin was often 81 73 respectively. Geriatric Patients prrscribed Antimicrobials other age groups. 193 were single antimicrobial therapy, 24 dual therapy patient 2 therapy. Out Prescription having Antibiotics, 39 found irrational. A wide spectrum diagnoses a variety utilized from various classes. Results showed Carbapenems(Meropenem) antibiotics extensively ICU. Among Vancomycin most commonly prescribed. Policy rational agents ICU should be implemented education needs provided.
